Coleslaw Dressing Recipes

by David on July 29, 2012

My mom used to make a coleslaw dressing which was really good and we couldn’t wait for her to make it as kids.  Although another person in our chef’s kitchen, if you can call it that had a family recipe that she loved. Hers has a bit more kick though. Both work very well with pulled pork.

Coleslaw is super easy to make but it’s a vital combination with barbecue pulled pork sandwiches.  Below I am going to give you both coleslaw dressing recipes for your enjoyment. Try one or try both, I am sure they will be a great accompaniment on your next BBQ.

1st Coleslaw Dressing Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise (you can use low fat as well)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp of black pepper
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp of celery salt (or you can use celery seeds)
  • 1/4 tsp of seasoning salt
  • ½ tsp of salt
  • 3 cups red cabbage (shredded)
  • 3 cups green cabbage (shredded)
  • 1 large carrot (shredded)

Preparation:

Combine all the ingredients listed above then mix with the cabbage and carrots in a large mixing bowl. Refrigerate for about an hour before serving

2nd Coleslaw Dressing Recipes

Caution: (a bit of bite to this one)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise (low fat is ok to use too)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp of black pepper
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp of celery salt (or you may use celery seeds)
  • 1/4 tsp of seasoning salt
  • 1 Tablespoon of creamy horseradish
  • 3 cups red cabbage (shredded)
  • 3 cups green cabbage (shredded)
  • 1 large carrot (shredded)

Combine all the ingredients above then mix well with the cabbage and carrots in a large serving or mixing bowl. Refrigerate for about an hour before serving.

As I stated above both of these a very flavorful and are a huge hit at every barbecue we have. Tip: Make you sure make extra as it always gets eaten quickly.

Hi Johanna, you are right, vegetables add such beuauiftl colour to a dish! I made the Jerked Honey Rum Glaze tonight, so hopefully it will be adorning some halloumi tomorrow! I think I subconsciously left the Rum part out, so as not to alarm Graham!Hi Wendy, This coleslaw is not too creamy, thanks to the lemon juice! I sometimes feel coleslaw is too rich! Actually I think it would be good just with a lemon and mustard dressing. Thanks Jenn!
